Assisted Suicide in Scotland: The Beginning of a Dangerous Spiral

« All Events

October 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

FREE

A Bill to allow assisted suicide is being considered by the Scottish Parliament.

If this bill becomes law it will become possible for people suffering from an advanced and progressive disease to request life ending drugs.

At this FREE event you will hear from:

Dr Richard Lenton: Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine.

Dennis Canavan: former MP & MSP representing Falkirk West for over 30 years.

This meeting will provide information on the Bill as presented and its dangers, the effects of legislation in other countries including the acceptance of euthanasia, together with deep personal reflection.

Safeguards?

Where Assisted Suicied has been allowed in other countries, so-called ‘safeguards’ have been ineffective. Disabled and otherwise vulnerable people of all age groups have felt threatened and obliged to consider ending their life because of not wishing to be a burden. Trust between patients and doctors has changed profoundly.

What can I do?

It is essential that we make our views known to our MSPs as they prepare to vote in the Scottish Parliament. If it becomes law in Scotland we will descend into a spiral towards thinking that in circumstances of frailty and illness we would be “Better off Dead”.
