SUMMARY:Day for Clergy
DESCRIPTION:The next Clergy Formation Day at The Gillis Centre will be given by Father Peter Cameron OP and is entitled Preaching as Generating. \nThe day will begin at 11:00am with coffee and we hope to finish by 3:30pm. \nOf the day\, Father Peter says\, “The presentation will be super practical. \n“It will focus on how recent Church documents encourage the preacher to conceive of preaching\, and on the role of Sacred Scripture and structure in preaching. \n“We will work on a lectionary Gospel text for an upcoming Sunday so that the participants can go home with the beginnings of a homily in their pocket”. \nPeter John Cameron was ordained a Dominican priest in 1986 for Province of St Joseph. He holds an STL from the Dominican House of Studies (Washington\, DC)\, and a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from the Catholic University of America. \nSince 1994\, he has taught homiletics at four seminaries in the United States\, and he is currently the Carl J. SUMMARY:Mental Health\, Faith & Community
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean for the Church to be a place where people living with mental health challenges feel truly welcomed – as people to be loved\, understood and included? \nIn this talk and discussion on Saturday 11 October 2:00pm – 4:00pm at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral\, Palmerston Place\, Rev Professor John Swinton will explore how Christian faith can shape the way we think about mental health and how the Church can become a community of genuine belonging. \nDrawing on his background in both theology and mental health care\, he will reflect on the roles of prayer\, preaching and worship in responding to difficult psychological experiences – not simply by offering answers\, but by allowing space for honesty\, hope and compassion. \nThe session will invite participants to think practically and theologically about what it means to listen well\, to accompany others faithfully\, and to create a Church culture that values every person\, irrespective of their condition or capacity. Clergy\, congregation members\, carers and mental health professionals are all welcome. Refreshments will be provided. \nFree\, ticketed\, booking available here. \nThis event is ecumenical and is organised by St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral\, Palmerston Place.
