SUMMARY:The Psalms and a Life of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Abbot Gregory Polan OSB\, a monk of Conception Abbey\, Missouri\, led the translation project which produced the Revised Grail Psalms (or Abbey Psalter) which is used in the new translation of the Lectionary. \nHe visits Scotland and offers two one-day conferences at Stirling University on Tuesday 28 October and on Wednesday 29 October in Christ the King church hall\, Glasgow\, from 10:30am – 4:00pm each day.  The content will include: \n\nThe Revised Grail (Abbey) Psalms: its creation and the use of Psalmody in the liturgy in general.\nThe use of Psalmody in the Mass and the Responsorial Psalm (include Entrance and Communion antiphons).\nPreaching on the Psalms.\nThe Psalter and a life of prayer.\n\nThe conference is open to the clergy and the laity. \nTo register\, please contact liturgycommission@bcos.org.uk. Cost £25 to attend the day conference and includes lunch\, to be payable on the day\, and this may be a parish expense. \nOn Wednesday 29 October at 7:00pm\, in Christ the King church\, Glasgow\, there will be a workshop aimed at parish musicians\, on singing the Abbey Psalms in the liturgy.  Resources for singing the Psalms in the new translation will be presented.  There is no charge for this event. \n

DESCRIPTION:The next Clergy Formation Day at The Gillis Centre will be given by Father Peter Cameron OP and is entitled Preaching as Generating. \nThe day will begin at 11:00am with coffee and we hope to finish by 3:30pm. \nOf the day\, Father Peter says\, “The presentation will be super practical. \n“It will focus on how recent Church documents encourage the preacher to conceive of preaching\, and on the role of Sacred Scripture and structure in preaching. \n“We will work on a lectionary Gospel text for an upcoming Sunday so that the participants can go home with the beginnings of a homily in their pocket”. \nPeter John Cameron was ordained a Dominican priest in 1986 for Province of St Joseph. He holds an STL from the Dominican House of Studies (Washington\, DC)\, and a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from the Catholic University of America. \nSince 1994\, he has taught homiletics at four seminaries in the United States\, and he is currently the Carl J. Peter Chair of Homiletics at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. \nHe served two terms as the Director of Preaching for his Dominican province. He is also the founding editor-in-chief of Magnificat (English edition)\, where he worked from 1998-2018. \nPeter is the author of To Praise\, To Bless\, To Preach: Spiritual Reflections on the Sunday Gospels (three volumes)\, and Why Preach: Encountering Christ in God’s Word. \nLet us know whether or not you can attend to help us with catering. DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special Jubilee Year 2025 event\, walking the historic and picturesque Fife Pilgrim Way over six stages. \nSaturday 30 August \n11:00am: Fife Pilgrim Way information board\, Battery Rd\, North Queensferry\, to St Margaret’s\, Dunfermline\, via Abbey. \nSaturday 6 September \n11:00am: St Margaret’s Memorial Church\, Dunfermline\, to St Joseph’s\, Kelty. \nSaturday 13 September \n11:00am: St Joseph’s\, Kelty\, to St Mary’s\, Leslie. \nSaturday 20 September \n11:00am: St Mary’s\, Leslie\, to St Giles\, Kennoway. \nSaturday 27 September \n11:00am: St Giles Kennoway\, to Ceres\, Kemback & Springfield Church. \nSaturday 18 October (not 4 October as previously advertised) \n11:00am: Ceres\, Kemback & Springfield Church\, to St James’ Church\, St Andrews. \nDeacon Pat Carrigan\, organiser\, said: “The Jubilee Year Pilgrim Walk is a wonderful chance to journey together in faith\, following in the footsteps of the pilgrims who walked these paths before us. \n“Each stage offers not only beautiful scenery but also prayer\, fellowship\, and hospitality along the way.” \nEvent organised by the Fife Deanery of the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh.
