This week sees the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh welcome Eileen Rafferty, our new Religious Education Advisor to Schools.

“I am thrilled to be taking up this post within the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh,” said Eileen, 1 August.

“Having made the journey to a personal, adult faith with the help of the teaching and the witness of staff at St Kentigern’s Academy in West Lothian I am delighted to be able to give something back to the teachers and young people of this Archdiocese.”

“I greatly look forward to meeting the staff and pupils of our schools and hope I can encourage, inspire and support our highly dedicated Catholic educators.”

Eileen has taught in Catholic schools across Scotland for almost 30 years in both the primary and additional support needs sectors. Her most recent post was that of Headteacher at St Anthony’s Primary School in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.

Eileen's new remit as Religious Education Advisor is to support the teaching of RE in the 69 primary schools and 10 secondary schools that lie within the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh. This will include: developing a suite of professional learning opportunities for teachers; creating materials which support and enhance the teaching of RE in schools e.g., sacramental work books; providing help, support and advice on issues relating to Religious Education or the maintenance of a Catholic ethos as they arise in schools.
