SUMMARY:Day for Clergy
DESCRIPTION:The next Clergy Formation Day at The Gillis Centre will be given by Father Peter Cameron OP and is entitled Preaching as Generating. \nThe day will begin at 11:00am with coffee and we hope to finish by 3:30pm. \nOf the day\, Father Peter says\, “The presentation will be super practical. \n“It will focus on how recent Church documents encourage the preacher to conceive of preaching\, and on the role of Sacred Scripture and structure in preaching. \n“We will work on a lectionary Gospel text for an upcoming Sunday so that the participants can go home with the beginnings of a homily in their pocket”. \nPeter John Cameron was ordained a Dominican priest in 1986 for Province of St Joseph. He holds an STL from the Dominican House of Studies (Washington\, DC)\, and a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from the Catholic University of America. \nSince 1994\, he has taught homiletics at four seminaries in the United States\, and he is currently the Carl J. Peter Chair of Homiletics at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. \nHe served two terms as the Director of Preaching for his Dominican province. He is also the founding editor-in-chief of Magnificat (English edition)\, where he worked from 1998-2018. \nPeter is the author of To Praise\, To Bless\, To Preach: Spiritual Reflections on the Sunday Gospels (three volumes)\, and Why Preach: Encountering Christ in God’s Word. \nLet us know whether or not you can attend to help us with catering. Please email ann-margaret.clark@staned.org.uk \n  \nThis event is for clergy of the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh only.

SUMMARY:Chrism Mass
DESCRIPTION:The Chrism Mass is when the holy oils are blessed and the sacred chrism is consecrated. It is traditionally celebrated on Tuesday of Holy Week at St Mary’s Cathedral\, with Archbishop Cushley. Priest of the Archdicoese join him to renew their priestly vows \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the Chrism Mass?\n\nThe Chrism Mass is a significant event in the Catholic Church\, where the bishop consecrates the sacred chrism (a mixture of olive oil and balsam) and blesses the other holy oils (oil of catechumens and oil of the sick).  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy is it important?\n\nThe Chrism Mass is a sign of the close bond between the bishop and the priests of the diocese\, and it is a time for priests to renew their commitment to their ministry.  \n\n\n\n\nWhen is it celebrated?\nTraditionally\, the Chrism Mass is celebrated during Holy Week\, on the morning of Holy Thursday\, but it can be celebrated on another day of the week\, or during the Lenten season\, as close to Holy Week as possible. \nWhat happens at the Chrism Mass?\nThe bishop consecrates the sacred chrism and blesses the other holy oils. Priests renew their commitment to their ministry.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat are the holy oils used for?\n\n\nHoly Chrism: Used in the sacraments of Baptism\, Confirmation\, and Holy Orders. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOil of Catechumens: Used in Baptism. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOil of the Sick: Used for anointing people who are ill or infirm.
