Life story of 'inspirational' Doris shared by parishioners

A church congregation has shared the life story of an "inspirational" parishioner, who has been recognised for her outstanding service to parish life.

Doris Forsyth, 94 (main picture holding certificate) has attended St Teresa of Lisieux in Craigmillar, Edinburgh, for more than 70 years, since arriving from India in 1944.

Parish Priest Fr Thomas Prince Mathew said: "Doris is held in great esteem by our parishioners and has been a wonderful example of living a Christian life.

"Her faith has been an inspiration. She has promoted devotions to Our Lady and the Sacred Heart and has been a Eucharistic minister, reader and cleaner. She is humble and  does everything with such reverence and in silence.

Fr Mathew contacted Archbishop Leo Cushley on behalf of the parish council to request she be given the Archdiocesan Medal for Outstanding Service to the Church. Archbishop Cushley celebrated Mass at the church after which he presented Doris with the award.

He said: "It's clear to me that Doris Forsyth has had a very positive impact on the many parishioners who have encountered her over the years.

"She has lived her faith quietly, simply and with great dignity for the greater glory of God. This reminds me of her own parish’s patron saint, St Thérèse of Lisieux, whose holy relics come to this city in September.”
