GALLERY: Day for Readers

Thanks to all who joined us for the Day for Readers at the Gillis Centre in Edinburgh on Saturday.

The event looked at both the spiritual and practical aspects of the public reading of Scripture at Mass.

Scripture scholar Fr Andrew Garden, of St David's in Dalkeith, led the main session with a reflection on the Gospel of St John.

The day concluded with Mass in St Margaret's Chapel.

Thanks to Fr Daniel Doherty VE, of St Francis Xavier's in Falkirk, and members of the Catechetics Commission for organising this event. Pics: Stephen Dolan.

Get inspired at Scripture Reflection Day

Father Andrew Garden is inviting parishioners across the Archdiocese to prepare for a new liturgical year at an event next month.

Scripture Reflection Day at the Gillis Centre in Edinburgh will discover how the evangelist St Matthew deepens our understanding of Jesus and His Church.

Fr Garden, priest for St David's, Dalkeith and St Luke's, Mayfield, said: "We held a similar event last year looking at St Luke's Gospel and those who come along always find it helpful and seem to get a lot of encouragement from it.

This event is also open to Parish readers, with former English teacher Margaret Magill giving guidance on improving public reading of holy scripture at Mass.

The day will conclude with Holy Mass in St Margaret's Chapel at 3pm
