Rest in peace: Sr Immaculata Murray RSM
A Sister of Mercy who dedicated her entire adult life to serving the Lord in our Archdiocese has died, aged 93.
Sr Immaculata Murray RSM passed away on 12 September, at St Michael's Care Home in Clacton-on-Sea. That was the very date she first entered the novitiate at St Catharine's Convent of Mercy, Lauriston, as a 17 year old.
She will be remembered by many as a science teacher at St Thomas Aquin's in Edinburgh, a lecturer at Notre Dame College in Bearsden, while also teaching in West Lothian.
Sister Aelred Timmins RSM said: "She was very outging and zealous for the Lord. When she taught in Broxburn, she took pupils to Lourdes and went many times - she was a great one for Our Lady and had the ability to bring people together.
"She was very much into social action - and used to visit the then lodging houses in the Grassmarket. She was also part of the Legion of Mary and initiated all kinds of groups."
Archbishop Cushley said: "I’ll always remember her cheerful energy while on pilgrimage with us to Lourdes - a lovely, devout and energetic Sister of Mercy! May she rest in peace."
