SUMMARY:Music for the Homeless Jesus
DESCRIPTION:On Monday 17 August the Schola Cantorum choir of St Mary’s Cathedral\, Edinburgh\, present a special concert inspired by Timothy Schmlaz’s powerful ‘Homeless Jesus’ sculpture\, which has recently been installed outside St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral.\n\n\n\n\nPart of Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts\, the evening will contemplate homelessness and marginalisation through a programme of breathtaking choral music that speaks of mercy\, compassion\, and hope.The evening will include a live performance of Gavin Bryars’ iconic composition “Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet”\, which is built around a haunting loop of an unknown homeless man singing an improvised refrain.The concert will also form part of a documentary film\, which the Schola Cantorum is currently producing in partnership with Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts\, and in collaboration with the Grassmarket Community Project\, the Bethany Christian Trust\, and St Catherine’s Convent of Mercy at Lauriston.\n\nTickets are £15 (£10 child) — book here.

DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz is visiting the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh this August. \nBest known for creating the powerful Homeless Jesus sculpture\, now installed outside St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Edinburgh\, Timothy’s work can be found in churches\, shrines and public spaces around the world\, inviting people to encounter Christ in the poor\, the vulnerable and the forgotten. \nJoin us as he reflects on the inspiration behind his sculptures\, the relationship between faith and art\, and the message of hope they seek to convey. There will also be an opportunity to meet Timothy and learn more about his internationally renowned work. \nWhether you have already seen Homeless Jesus (located outside the Cathedral) or simply have an interest in art\, faith and social justice\, everyone is welcome. \nAdmission is free.
