World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

This day is an opportunity to honour the priceless presence of older people in our families, parishes, and communities.
The Marriage and Family Commission of the Archdicoese invites clergy and parish communities to mark this occasion by considering celebrating Mass or a prayer service in local care homes, visit the sick and housebound during the week, and spend time with elderly parishioners who may feel isolated or forgotten.
A visit, a moment of shared prayer, and a listening ear are simple but powerful signs of Christ’s presence and love.
Bidding prayer for 26 July
For Grandparents and the Elderly – Loving God, we give thanks for the gift of our grandparents and all elderly members of our families, parish and communities. May they be blessed with health, joy, and the comfort of knowing they are cherished. Grant them the grace to share their wisdom and faith with younger generations, and may we, in turn, honour them with love, patience, and respect. Lord, hear us.
