Praying for those who have suffered abuse

The Day of Prayer for Those who have Suffered Abuse falls on the Friday after Ash Wednesday (20 February).

This day provides opportunities for Catholics in their homes, parishes and communities to pray for the healing of all who have suffered abuse.

The Liturgical Commission of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland has prepared these resources to mark the day. The resources have been sent by Archbishop Cushley to all clergy.

Yesterday at The Gillis Centre we hosted our annual Clergy Safeguarding Day with over 100 priests and deacons attending.

Thanks to Stewart Stobie from the Lucy Faithfull Foundation who spoke about safeguarding challenges and best practice in relation to prevention.

On this day of prayer for those who have been wounded by abuse, please pray for all victims.

Prayer

Bestow healing, Lord God, upon your beloved children,
wounded by the pain and fear inflicted on them by others.
Cast light on the darkness of their hearts
and draw near to them to restore what is lost.

Shelter them safely in your love
and make them confident in the knowledge
that they have been powerfully redeemed.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
