Consultation on Scottish Diocesan Structures

Archbishop Cushley invites you to respond to a consultation regarding the structures of the Church in Scotland.

The purpose is to reflect on how the structures of the Church here can best serve her mission in the years ahead, specifically, whether the present situation of eight dioceses is suitable.

If follows this statement from the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland in which two possible pathways are being proposed for careful discernment: developing deeper cooperation and the sharing of resources across dioceses within our present structures, or the merging of some dioceses.

We are all aware of the challenges before us — fewer clergy, changing patterns of practice, and increasing pressures on diocesan resources

The consultation questions are online at bit.ly/archconsultation26. Responses must be submitted by Friday 26 June.

Your answers will be collated and presented to Archbishop Cushley who will feed the report into the diocesan submission for the national discussion with the other bishops.

It is intended that the national report will be submitted to the Dicastery for Bishops in Rome to make them aware of how Scottish Catholics understand the Church’s Mission in our country, and the diocesan structures which will best serve this Mission.
