Lecture: Albert the Great on Becoming Fully Human

The Albertus Institute, in partnership with the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh, presents its annual lecture with Dr Tracy Wietecha of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.

In Albert the Great on Becoming Fully Human: Virtue, Judgement, and Perfection, Dr Wietecha will explore what it means to become fully human in the age of AI through the theology of St Albert the Great.

She will consider Albert’s belief that we have a duty to develop ourselves intellectually and morally, asking how we learn to desire rightly, act well and make good judgements amid the changing circumstances of life.

The lecture takes place on Friday 11 September 2026, from 4:10pm to 7:00pm, at Martin Hall, New College, Edinburgh EH1 2LX.

The lecture itself is free and unticketed. Registration is required only for the drinks reception, for which a £10 donation is suggested.
