Here are forthcoming events in the Archdiocese and nationally in September.
This month is traditionally dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and today (1 Sep) is the Feast of St Giles, one of the patrons of the Archdiocese, along wit St Cuthbert (4th).
This month’s feast days also include the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (8th), Our Lady of Sorrows (15th), Padre Pio (23rd) and the Feast of the Archangels (Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, 29th).
The Season of Creation runs from 1 September to 4 October, and Vocations Awareness Week begins on Sunday 13 September.
Saturday: Day for Altar Servers
Our annual Day for Altar Servers takes place on Saturday 5 September, 10:30am-3:00pm at The Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1BB. Parents should contact their parish priest to register. The day features training, games, activities, inspiring talks, and Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Cushley.

Sunday: National Pilgrimage, Carfin

Children’s Liturgy Leader’s Morning
A morning of prayer and reflection for Children’s Liturgy leaders will be held on Saturday 12 September, 9:00am to 12 noon, at The Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh, EH9 1EE. Register here.

SPUC annual Conference

Venerable Margaret Sinclair Pilgrimage
The Venerable Margaret Sinclair Pilgrimage takes place on Sunday 20 September at St Patrick’s Church, The Cowgate, Edinburgh. It’s the annual event where we gather to pray for the Beatification of the Venerable Margaret Sinclair, entombed in the Sacred Heart chapel at the church. National Youth Pilgrimage
On Saturday 26 September 2026, Pluscarden Abbey will welcome young adults (18–35) for the National Youth Pilgrimage. This year’s theme focuses on religious and monastic life, with a programme designed to offer both reflection and encounter. September Clergy Moves
Canon Pat Boylan officially retires from active ministry this Saturday (5th Sep) after nearly half a century of service in the Archdiocese. We welcome back Fr Nicky Welsh from his time as Vice Rector of the Pontifical Scots College in Rome. He replaces Canon Pat as Parish Priest at St Alexander’s Denny and St Luke’s, Banknock. Please keep both men in your prayers.

In October: Poverty in Scotland
This event will dive into the reality of poverty in Scotland. We’ll hear from a range of speakers working on the frontline, chat about what’s being done and explore ways we can do more to help.
