The Annual Caritas, Justice and Peace Mass was celebrated recently at St Peter’s Parish, Carmondean, Livingston.
It was an opportunity for prayer, reflection and solidarity with those suffering throughout the world, while reaffirming the Archdiocese’s commitment to promoting justice, peace and human dignity in the light of the Gospel
The Mass was celebrated by Canon Brian Gowans, who thanked members of the Commission for Caritas, Justice and Peace for their dedicated work throughout the past year.

He also encouraged parishioners across the Archdiocese to become involved in promoting the Church’s mission of charity, justice and peace in their local communities.
A key part of the evening was an address from Peter Diamond (below), Community Outreach Lead for Aid to the Church in Need Scotland, who spoke about the challenges faced by persecuted and suffering Christians around the world.
He highlighted the charity’s support for Christians in more than 140 countries and shared moving examples of its work, particularly in Lebanon and the Holy Land, where many Christian communities continue to endure conflict, displacement and hardship.

Peter concluded by encouraging those present to pray for persecuted Christians throughout the world. “I would ask you to please pray for your persecuted and suffering brothers and sisters around the world,” he said.
Recalling Pope Leo’s visit to Lebanon, he reflected on the Beatitude chosen as the motto for the visit: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
After Mass, members of the Commission gathered with parishioners and guests for refreshments in the parish hall.
