Mount Vernon Cemetery in Edinburgh will re-open at weekends following the Scottish Government's announcement of the first phase in the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

It follows what the First Minister today described as an "unmistakable" downward trend in the spread of the virus as she confirmed "we are in a position to make careful changes."

Opening hours (beginning Friday 29 May)

  • Friday 4pm-8pm
  • Saturday 8am-8pm
  • Sunday 8am-8pm

Access is for pedestrians only (please enter through the side gate). Weekday access is restricted to funeral services and the cemetery office and public toilets are closed until further notice.

Anna Kulwicka, cemetery manager, said: "These temporary conditions are to ensure a safe working environment for our staff and to conduct burials safely and respectfully. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience."

Mount Vernon Cemetery was founded by the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh in 1895 and is the city’s only Catholic cemetery.
