Pilgrims from across the Archdiocese and beyond have completed a six-stage journey along the Fife Pilgrim Way, arriving in St Andrews in time for the Vigil Mass.
The pilgrimage began at Culross and took place over six Saturdays, with participants walking through Fife and ending each stage at a church for a time of prayer.
The group included parishioners from St Mary’s Cathedral, St Andrew’s Ravelston and Sacred Heart, Lauriston, in Edinburgh, and Most Holy Trinity in south-west Fife. They were also joined by walkers from St John the Evangelist in Barrhead (Paisley Diocese).
A flexible approach meant people could take part in one stage or complete all the pilgrimages – several pilgrims completed the full route, while others plan to finish stages they missed in their own time.
Organiser Deacon Pat Carrigan said: “It was great to meet so many lovely people this year and to hear their stories as we walked.
“The sun, the beautiful countryside and the easy company all made this pilgrimage a lasting memory as we walked from church to church.”
The official route was adapted so that each day’s walk finished at a church, giving pilgrims the opportunity for private prayer. On the final day, the group reached St Andrews in time to attend the Vigil Mass at St James’ Church.
Rev Simon Hessett, Fife Pilgrim Way Pastor, joined the pilgrims for their final stage from Ceres to St Andrews.
Deacon Pat thanks parish volunteers who opened churches and provided hospitality to the walkers at the beginning and end of each stage.
