Father Basil Clark jetted out to Spain this morning (Monday 4 May) to begin a 100km sponsored walk of the Camino de Santiago.
He is taking on the famous Spanish pilgrim route to raise funds for the parish roof at Our Lady of Loretto & St Michael in Musselburgh.
Fr Basil admits to feeling a little daunted but he says he is stepping out in “faith, determination and hope”.
The parish GoFundMe page states: “After 121 years of sheltering baptisms, weddings, funerals, and Sunday prayers, the roof has reached the end of its life.
“Water damage is threatening the building we all call home. Repairs are extensive and costly, far beyond our regular parish budget.
“Every step our priest takes on the Camino is a step toward keeping our church safe, dry, and open for the next generation.
Funds will go to roof replacement, structural timber repair, and weatherproofing. He also hopes to share funds for Mary’s Meals and the local St Vincent de Paul group in Tranent (at St Martin of Tours’ Parish).
