Archbishop Cushley led the annual Corpus Christi procession through the streets of Galashiels yesterday.

The procession paused at Bank Street Gardens for prayer.

He said: “It was so moving, so beautiful, and we received a warm welcome from the people of Galashiels.

The procession makes its way through Galashiels.

“The Blessed Sacrament is the loving presence of Christ in the Eucharist and sanctifying the world round about us in this way is something that Catholic Christians have been doing for 1,000 years.”

He added: “In the Blessed Sacrament, his body, blood, soul and divinity are present. And that is what we honour today, that is what we worship.

Children in their First Holy Communion clothes were at the front of the procession.

“He is our Risen Lord, our Loving Lord and he wishes to welcome us into paradise. Thank you for your public witness today.”
