Priests from the Archdiocese were welcomed to Bute House, the official residence of the First Minister John Swinney, on Monday
The delegation of 14 international priests, led by Canon Kenneth Owens, Vicar Episcopal for International Clergy, represented countries including Nigeria, India, Argentina, Sri Lanka and Scotland, reflecting the rich international contribution to their work in the Archdiocese.

Canon Owens said: “It was a privilege to visit Bute House on Monday and to meet the First Minister.
“Our international clergy contribute greatly to the life of the Church in Scotland, and it was encouraging to have the opportunity to share something of that ministry while assuring him of our prayers.”
Clergy chatted with Mr Swinney over tea and coffee before the group was welcomed into the Cabinet Room, where he spoke about areas of responsibility held by the Scottish Government.
The visit included a Q&A session, with discussion covering the constitutional arrangements of the four nations of the United Kingdom, the Assisted Dying Bill currently under discussion, the rights of immigrants, and the proposed removal of VAT relief from churches.
Canon Owens, who is parish priest at St Peter’s Morningsde & St Columba’s, Newington, added: “The First Minister concluded the meeting by thanking the priests who have come to Scotland as missionaries and recognising the valuable contribution they make to the life of the Church and wider society.”
