The pro-life campaign, 40 Days for Life, are currently holding peaceful public witnesses across the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh in order to pray for an end to abortion. You will find them at:
Edinburgh: Chalmers Clinic, 2a Chalmers Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9ES, 11 am – 12 noon, 7 days / week, 6 March to 14 April.
Larbert: Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Stirling Road, Larbert, FK5 4WR, 11:30 am to 1:30pm, 7 days / week, 6 March to 14 April.
All participants are asked to sign a statement of peace in which they pledge to conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner. For more information, contact Paul Atkin of our Archdiocesan Pro-Life Office at prolife@staned.org.uk. Below is Archbishop Leo Cushley’s letter of support to those taking part in 40 Days for Life 2019.
Dear Friends,
2019 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Dr Martin Luther King Junior. The life and legacy of Dr King provide us with a timely reminder as to the power of peaceful, prayerful witness in the face of injustice
As he once wrote: “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality,” adding that “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
It is out of love for mothers, unborn children, their families and the common good of wider society that many of us will quietly, peacefully, and peaceably provide daily witness during Lent as part of 40 Days for Life.
I commend all who do so. I offer you my support. I assure you of my prayer. I give you my blessing.
Sincerely in Christ,
+ Leo Cushley
